US Incoming Travel Ban: What Do We Know?

The US president issued an executive order aimed at “Protecting the United States from Foreign Terrorists and Other National Security and Public Safety Threats”. The Executive Order gives federal agencies 60–days to identify countries that may warrant restrictions on travel to the United States.

It requires that agencies “re-establish a uniform baseline for screening and vetting standards and procedures, consistent with the uniform baseline that existed on January 19, 2021, that will be used for any alien seeking a visa or immigration benefit of any kind”

The order vows to protect US citizens from aliens who intend to commit terrorist attacks.

The executive order according to Reuters has attracted criticism from civil rights groups, warning that it lays the groundwork for reinstatement of a ban on travelers from predominantly Muslim or Arab countries. It should be noted that no country has been banned yet.
