Scholarship Opportunity: Fulbright Foreign Student Program Now Open for Cameroonian Applicants
The U.S. Embassy in Cameroon has announced the opening of the 2027–2028 Fulbright Foreign Student Program (FFSP), inviting talented Cameroonian graduates and professionals to apply for a fully funded opportunity to pursue advanced studies in the United States.
Now open for the 2027–2028 academic year, the program invites young professionals and recent graduates in Cameroon to apply before April 20, 2026, for a fully funded opportunity to pursue graduate studies in the United States.
A Legacy of Global Connection
Born from the ashes of World War II, the Fulbright Program was established in 1946 to promote mutual understanding through education and cultural exchange. Over the decades, it has grown into a global network that connects people and nations through shared learning, curiosity, and cooperation.
In Cameroon, the Fulbright Foreign Student Program (FFSP) continues that tradition. Each year, three to five Cameroonians are selected to study at leading U.S. universities, not only to excel academically but to serve as cultural ambassadors, building bridges between communities both at home and abroad.
What the Scholarship Covers
The FFSP provides full funding for up to two years of graduate-level study, with priority given to candidates pursuing master’s degrees. Awardees receive tuition coverage, round-trip airfare, a monthly stipend, and health insurance. Those admitted to programs shorter than two years will receive support for the duration of their studies as determined by their host institution.
Non-degree participants, such as visiting student researchers, may also be funded for one academic year (9–10 months).
Who Can Apply
Eligible applicants must:
- Be a Cameroonian citizen or a permanent resident holding a valid Cameroonian passport.
- Hold at least a U.S.-equivalent bachelor’s degree (typically four years of university study). Three-year undergraduate degree holders may qualify if their credentials permit further study in Cameroon, though U.S. universities determine final eligibility.
- Demonstrate sufficient English proficiency to pursue graduate-level coursework. Candidates with moderate language skills may be eligible for Long-Term English (LTE) training before their studies.
The program also provides support for students with disabilities, which may include adaptive technologies or mobility aids during their academic program in the U.S.
Who Cannot Apply
Ineligible candidates include:
- Previous recipients of a Fulbright or Humphrey scholarship.
- Those currently living or studying in the U.S.
- Individuals who have spent five or more consecutive years in the U.S. during the past six years.
- Applicants who earned a U.S. degree in the past three years.
- Employees (and immediate family members) of the U.S. Mission in Cameroon or USAID, during their employment and for one year after.
Fields of Study
Applications are welcome from all academic disciplines except for medical programs involving direct patient contact.
How to Apply
Applications must be submitted online by 11:59 PM (Cameroon time) on Monday, April 20, 2026, via https://apply.iie.org/ffsp2027.
Applicants should review all guidelines carefully and include the following documents:
- Personal statement and study objectives (essays)
